Feline Doom Lurks Above
Originally uploaded by FrozenCapybara.

Ham has discovered that we have a ledge overlooking the front door. He lurks up there, waiting for his prey to enter. I expect he's waiting until he grows up into a mighty tiger so he can pounce...

Both boys seem to have adjusted well to the new house. Tai's still a little easily spooked, but seems comfortable in his new home. Ham - well, Ham's comfortable anywhere. It's all his anyway.

This is why I can't get anything done around here: near-toxic levels of adorableness. Seriously, can you believe this?

We've moved, and I've been behind on photo editing - but I just processed about two months' worth tonight, so enjoy. This is my favorite of the lot, but you can see all the cat pictures by going here and scrolling forward through the set. Don't miss the ridiculous Ham picture at the end.

No pictures of the boys in their new habitat yet - that will have to wait until we're more unpacked.

Taichou and Hammond hunting birds
Originally uploaded by kviri

It took 11 days, but we finally managed to get Tai and the Hamster in the same photo.

Amazingly, they weren't even trying to kill each other. (They were hunting birds.)

Also, I've been playing around with video hosting a little bit.

Hammond guards his new mousie
Originally uploaded by FrozenCapybara.

Last week we brought home this little guy.

His name is Hammond (after Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame). He's about 9 months old, and is therefore a kitten and thus completely insane, but he's also completely adorable, so we forgive him. Even when he's attempting to chew our arms off. Which happens on a regular basis. We're working on that.

We call him Ham for short, or occasionally Hamster.

Taichou was Mr. Grumpy McSulkypants for about three days after we brought Ham home, but he's slowly warming up to him, and seems to have forgotten that he's mad at us.

Goodbye, Makoto. Dec. 10th, 2007 @ 05:16 pm
(This got posted to kviri's and frozencapybara's journal a while ago... it took us until now to work up the will to post it here, as well.)

On the morning of Saturday, November 3, we took Makoto to the vet -- he was listless and uninterested in food. A quick trip to Lexington/Bedford vet was followed by a not-at-all-quick trip to Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn. He was put on fluids, and much testing (and worrying) followed.

Makoto's diagnosis, in the end, was as follows: Severe diabetic ketoacidosis, pancretitis, a urinary tract infection, and -- by the end -- a probable but unidentified liver issue and other "anomalies" in his bloodwork. Unfortunately, until this past weekend, Mako hid his medical problems very well. Looking back, we see them -- but at the time, it could all be explained away. (And, who expects diabetes in a five-year-old, non-overweight cat?)

The people at MVRH took very good care of our little boy -- we have nothing but good things to say about them. But in the end, it was just too much to fix. When we visited on the following Tuesday, he didn't react to much of anything, he was clearly still in pain, and more than anything else looked like he just wanted to sleep - but couldn't get comfortable enough to do so. He still refused to eat.

The vet also confirmed that, if anything, he'd regressed a bit in terms of alertness over the past 24 hours.

We said our goodbyes, and had him put to sleep.

We miss you, Mako. We miss you so much. We just hope you don't hurt any more.

As much as he'd claim otherwise, the diet has been very good for Tai. A few months ago, this was not a sight you'd ever see.

(Then again, he has also rediscovered the joy of jumping up on the kitchen counters, so it's kind of a wash.)

Labelling the cat Jul. 16th, 2005 @ 09:47 pm

Originally uploaded by FrozenCapybara.

We got a new cat tree last week, since the old one was getting a bit low on intact carpet. Ever the packrats, though, we didn't want to throw out the old tree, so we moved it to the other room behind their litter box. Little did we know that the space approximately five feet above the floor in the middle of the outside wall of that room was The Spot Tai Wanted To Be In. He's spent a truly ridiculous amount of time there in the past week, so much so that we labelled it.

So here's Tai, conveniently labelled.

Kittens! Jun. 26th, 2005 @ 01:16 am

Originally uploaded by FrozenCapybara.

That's right, it's kitten season once again and Milford Humane Society. Kittens are one of the best reasons to volunteer for a cat shelter - I get to play with kittens! And I don't have to pay for their vet bills or watch them wreck my house! It's great!

This little girl is probably the closest I'm ever going to get to having kitten pictures of Tai, so of course I had to grab my camera.

Four photos uploaded over on Flickr - click the picture to see more.

In the hopes of posting more often, I'm trying out using flickr for posting more pictures of the boys here. The hope is that it'll be less annoying than having to upload, name, compose the post with HTML, etc. - not that those steps are -hard-, mind you, there's just enough of them that laziness frequently wins.

The only drawback is that I can't put the pictures behind a cut tag using this method. The photos are reduced in size, but even at the smallest size, they're still visible. Please let me know if this causes a huge layout problem for you. Since I'm still deciding, your vote matters! I can always go back to the old way of posting if necessary.

Kitten! And others, in Ohio. Jan. 15th, 2005 @ 10:50 pm
Sorry for the delay in posting pictures of Tiki the Wonder Kitten. These are my parents' cats; pictures taken during the week of Christmas. Warning: lots of photos behind the cut.

More cuteness than you can handleCollapse )

By the way, a few administrative notes:
1) I like comments! Even if they're just "awwww, cute!"
2) Speaking of comments, due to a troll on an old entry a few weeks back, I've changed the settings such that anonymous comments (i.e. comments from those without a livejournal account) are screened. This means that I have to approve anonymous comments before they show up to everyone else. If you're a legitimate anonymous commenter (i.e. if you'e posting "awww, cute" or even something more substantive), don't worry about it - I'll approve your comment as soon as I get around to it.

Happy Christmas from Makoto and Taichou Dec. 25th, 2004 @ 06:07 pm
Happy holidays to all our readers! Our present to you on this lovely Christmas day is a batch of not particularly festive, but still adorable, pictures of our very own Makoto and Taichou. Enjoy!

We haven't posted pictures of our cats in a while, have we?Collapse )

Coming soon: a plethora of pictures of Tiki, my parents' thanksgiving kitten; and maybe even a Tiki movie!

Kitten! Dec. 3rd, 2004 @ 02:01 pm
My parents found a 1:8 scale model of Makoto on their porch.

Pictures behind the cutCollapse )

It doesn't belong to any of the neighbors, so they're adopting it - its name is now Tiki.
I'm thrilled, because a) KITTEN! Kitten to pet while home for Christmas! Yay! and b) it's the closest thing to kitten-pictures of Makoto I can get.

Pure feline talent Nov. 17th, 2004 @ 11:18 am

More shelter kittes, different shelter Sep. 23rd, 2004 @ 05:39 pm
This week's special guest stars are the cats of the PALS shelter in Winthrop, ME. kviri sponsors a cat there, so on our vacation, we stopped by to visit and to take pictures.

Cuteness overload from MaineCollapse )

One of these days I'll post more pictures of Tai and Mako, I promise. :)

Do you think Tai is cute? Aug. 7th, 2004 @ 09:54 pm
If you do, you should go vote for the inverted tabby icon in catamorphism's icon poll! He's much cuter than a can of soup. :) The poll closes on Monday, so go vote soon!

For comparison, and to make this a touch more on-topic, here's a few kitty pictures.Collapse )

If the Inverted Tabby icon wins the whole thing, I'll promise a whole new round of brand-new pictures (of better quality than these, certainly) of Mako and Tai! In the nude, even!

(And no, pimping my icon like this isn't cheating. catamorphism said so. So :P)
